John McCain is right—the attorney general of New York is a perfectly ridiculous fit as his SEC chairman.

One man is a tough-talking, pro-reform, anti-short-selling Democrat from New York. The other is a tough-talking, pro-reform, anti-short-selling Republican from Arizona. John McCain is right: Andrew Cuomo would be a perfect fit as his Securities and Exchange Commission chairman.

Sunday night, John McCain gave an interview to 60 Minutes during which he was asked about who he’d want to chair his SEC. The answer: Democratic New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. “This may sound a little unusual, but I’ve admired Andrew Cuomo. I think he is somebody who could restore some credibility, lend some bipartisanship to this effort,” said McCain, with an odd gravitas you’d not normally associate with a sub-Cabinet appointment.

McCain’s potential SEC chair is an issue only because McCain has been so vocal about wanting current SEC Chairman Chris Cox out of office. McCain says Cox has “betrayed the public’s trust” and should be fired. (McCain later corrected himself, saying that he realized a president can’t fire an SEC chairman. Instead, he would demand Cox’s resignation.)

Wow, what a waste of an article. If all you were going to do was link to the Voice article, why didn't you just do that?

Honestly, if you actually read the Voice article, it's pretty crappy--a transparent attempt to pin the blame for a very complicated situation on one guy. But I guess actually reading the articles you link to is beyond Slate.
