Today, General Motors (GM) filed for bankruptcy, paving the way for the company's temporary nationalization. On this momentous occasion, here's a rerun of TBM's video retrospective on the carmaker's advertising history, first published a couple of weeks ago.

For more than 100 years, the General Motors brand has deftly adapted itself to the American zeitgeist.  Now, on the verge of collapse, GM struggles to find a new message that works.

GM chameleon?

Sounds like GM in't going to take any extraodinary messures until the free bailout bonanza ends. What do they need to make them solvent? A $100 billion?
