Are there other options on the table?

Yes. The most noteworthy is being tossed around Capitol Hill and involves creating a government-operated fund that could absorb the bad assets of Wall Street. This would allow banks to operate free of toxic holdings, but taxpayers would foot the bill for money lost in the sale. There is some historical precedent for this kind of plan. When will the sky stop falling?

Probably no time soon. Other companies are hemorrhaging money, and the market did not react positively to the Fed’s AIG bailout today. Considering the Treasury’s movement to sink more money into the Fed, it appears the government is preparing for more bailouts.
