Sarah Palin Hurts Wine Sales
This is almost too good to be true, but apparently it is true: Until the ascendancy of Sarah Palin as John McCain's running mate, the top selling wine at San Francisco's Yield Wine Bar was Palin Syrah, an organic Chilean wine that goes for $13 a bottle.
Sales have plummeted since the Republican convention, according to SeriousEats.
Now, if I were at Yield and saw Palin Syrah on the wine list, I'd order it in a second, not because I'm a fan of the rootin' tootin' Alaska governor and her love-hate relationship with federal earmarks but because of my innate sense of irony. But then, I'm not from San Francisco.
Yield still has two cases of Palin Syrah in stock. Asked whether he'll order more, owner Chris Tavelli said, "I don't know. I guess it depends on how the election goes."
