Swedish Burger Chain Publishes Carbon Data on Menus

Max Burger, a Swedish fast-food chain, is publishing the carbon footprint of every item on its menu. It claims to be the first restaurant chain to do so.

Given the relatively high levels of greenhouse gases created by meat production (just how high is a matter of dispute—more on that in this space soon), why would a burger chain effectively discourage consumption of its flagship meal?

Restaurant Owners No Longer Strictly Republican

In 2004, 90 percent of the National Restaurant Association's political donations went to Republicans. Then, according to Politico's Jeanne Cummings, the lobbying group started to adjust to "the new political realities of Washington"—even before the Democrats took over Congress in 2006.

The group still favors Republicans, but the money split is down to 60-40.
