Google's Canadian Paper Caper
Google's Canadian Paper Caper
Sort of. What it's really done is buy the entire digital newspaper archive assembled by Paperofrecord.org, a Canadian company that started by digitizing the entire 116-year printed history of the Toronto Star and has since moved on to digitally archiving newspapers in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. With this transaction, Google has now added 20 million newspaper pages, all in their original format, to its historical newspaper records project, which it started in early September. There's no word on how much the acquisition cost, but clearly Google hasn't entirely stopped dropping a wad on projects that don't pay off right away.
