More on Model's Google Suit

Attentive readers may recall that last August, someone with an unhealthy beef with New York City model Liksula Cohen created a Web site dedicated entirely to what a "psychotic, lying, whoring, still going to clubs at her age, skank" he or she considered her. Dubbed "Skanks in NYC," the site consists of pictures of Cohen doing some PG-13 cavorting with a few friends, accompanied by some less-than-charitable captions. Cohen took umbrage and has sued Google, which provided the blogging account, to force the company to reveal the identity of the libelous lad or lady.

Last week, reports Media Post News, an attorney for the anonymous asshole filed court papers seeking to protect his or her client's namelessness and claiming that the Web site doesn't constitute libel, as it only contains opinions as to Liksula Cohen's lack of honesty, sanity, and sexual hygiene. "No reasonable viewer of the blog would or could conclude that the statements referring to petitioner as a 'skank,' or 'skanky,' or 'acting like a ho' actually purport to convey verifiable statements of fact," argued the attorney. Which may well be true, just as our assessment of the poster as a nasty, chickenshit little creep can't be verified, either. But we'd sure like to try!

Manhattan Judge Joan Madden will hold a further hearing on the matter next Wednesday. We'll bounce on over and see whether Google's promise of blogger anonymity survives. Stay tuned.
