Google on the Moon
Google on the Moon
Some of you may be wondering why today's Google logo had no reference to the 40th anniversary of the moon landing. That's because Google (GOOG) had something else in mind.
At a press conference at Washington D.C.'s Newseum, the engineers of Google Earth announced Moon in Google Earth, a new, anniversary feature for the planet's one and only natural satellite. Users can now scan a map of the moon in 3-D, walk through each of the Apollo landing missions, and watch footage of NASA astronauts harvesting green cheese and searching for Mooninites. You can examine artifacts and spacecraft left behind, or look over the lunar maps NASA used while plotting the missions. Buzz Aldrin even walks users through a blow-by-blow tour of the Apollo 11 mission.
