Microsoft’s Laptop Hunter Trapped in a Lie

Apple (AAPL) fans display their detective work in this viral video. Their evidence suggests that rival Microsoft’s “laptop hunter” lied about entering the Apple Store in a recent commercial. Does this ad make you distrust Microsoft (MSFT) altogether or do you think Mac fans are rotten for ripping on this girl?

Title: Microsoft busted!!! Lauren never entered the Apple Store!

Stats: This rebuttal to Microsoft's popular "laptop hunter" ads has received increasing attention from the pro-Mac crowd in the past two weeks. Over 25,000 viewings in the first 12 days since it was posted to YouTube, generating 120 text comments and over 180 Diggs.

What you see: Here's a piece of cyber-sleuthing that only a Mac fan, or Microsoft hater, would have time to piece together in such detail. Remember Lauren from the Microsoft ads? She's the one on a hunt for a sub-$1,000 laptop. The Microsoft ad says she went into an Apple store in search of a laptop, only to be hit with sticker shock. But hold on. This YouTube poster, "MSBusted," slows the commercial down to a few frames per second and, voilà, it appears to reveal that Lauren never actually entered the Apple store to look for her laptop. "Lauren lied," MSBusted tells us, adding later that Microsoft is "neglecting details that matter."
