Southwest Airlines’ Freestylin’ Attendant
Preflight announcements as a rap.
People often ignore preflight announcements, which are typically unenthusiastically delivered. But on this Southwest Airlines (LUV) flight, a rapping flight attendant demands everyone’s attention. Does his rap make you want to fly with Southwest more frequently, or does the performance induce airsickness?
Title: Flight Attendant doing raps!! (complete ed.)
Stats: For the past few months, Southwest Airlines passengers have been videotaping preflight announcements and posting them to YouTube. Why? Click “play” and see. Several versions of this video exist, but this one tops them all: more than 1 million viewings and 2,300 text comments.
What you see: The low-grade video opens with Southwest flight attendant David Holmes giving a spirited announcement as passengers take their seats on Southwest Airlines flight 372 bound to Oklahoma City. While the passengers in the rear fuss with their bags, Holmes insists on a little crowd participation. "I need a beat," he beckons, before launching into a rap about preparation for takeoff, buying drinks in the air, and keeping the seatbelt fastened along the way, all accompanied by passengers clapping in time to the beat.
