An Intel Geek Turned Rock Star?
The tech company wants an image makeover.
Intel (INTC) tries to revamp its image with this viral video, in which an engineer gets celebrity treatment. Does the ad give you a new impression of Intel, or do you still think of its workers as smart but nerdy?
Title: An "Intel Star" TV ad—Sponsors of Tomorrow
Stats: Intel's newest ad campaign, dubbed "Sponsors of Tomorrow," is just two days old, launching on YouTube on May 6. (The spots hit TV in the coming days.) So these statistics may fall on the meager side: For the first two spots, just over 4,200 viewers have watched in the first 24 hours, generating 39 text responses.
What you see: The first 30-second spot features, wait for it, Ajay Bhatt. Who? You know, "co-inventor of the USB," the ad's creators helpfully tip us off. Bhatt, dressed in gray slacks, a tie, and sweater vest walks into a sanitized Intel cafeteria accompanied by electric guitar riffs. Cut to worker drones in slow-motion awe of their hero. Bhatt is like a rock star to geeks, or at least should be—that's the message.
